You wouldn’t have needed a crystal ball to predict this one, the inevitable has occurred and David Moyes has been given the sack three games from the end of the season. Whether you agree or disagree with the decision it cannot come as a surprise to the majority of football fans, even more than that, it couldn’t have been much of a shock to the entire world! Everyone seemed to know of the Scott’s troubles. There has been much made of his unwanted records, lowest points tally in the clubs premier league history, worst league home form ever, first time lost three in a row since 2001 and many, many more. With all of this in mind here are some of the key failings I feel are responsible for the poor season. Continue reading

It cannot be denied that this season the premiership has been fantastic. With three teams in with a chance of taking the trophy and any combination of 7 different teams all in relegation trouble this year is set to go right down to the wire. What is even more exciting than this is, with a World Cup fast approaching, the number of English players at the top of their game all vying for one of those precious seats on the plane to Brazil.

England are long overdue a decent tournament and with a spree of young, hungry, inform players this is looking to be a great opportunity. Here are just a few of the young English players that could make a serious impact at the World Cup.

Tyson gay (Left) and Asafa Powell (Right) both test positive for banned stimulant only adding to the ever growing list of drug cheats in the world of sprinting

Former 100 metre record holder Asafa Powell has been handed an 18-month ban for failing a drugs test at last year’s national championships. The suspension has been backdated and will end on 20th December 2014. As the once Jamaican golden boy ages and his performances drop one has to question whether it was simply a matter of time before something of this nature was to happen. Continue reading

As Easter approaches that can only mean one thing, not the Easter bunny, not the revival of Christ, not the excessive amount of chocolate many are to consume but the boat race. This annual event is now something of an Easter time tradition pitting the top two universities against one another in a four, and a bit, mile race spanning from Putney to Mortlake. Although many have heard of the boat race not many will know much, if anything, about what is happening. This brief guide will hopefully shed some light on one of Britain’s finest sporting events. The End of English Cricket?

A triumphant Parnell takes it upon himself to dump England out of the T20 World Cup.

In the wake of an appalling tour of Australia and an early exit from the T20 World Cup many have begun to question England and the ECB. The root of these failings seems to run deeper than just a spout of poor form. Could it be that the once world beaters have become nothing more than mediocre? Continue reading

English Sport. Spoilt for Choice?

Also among the list of funding cuts are; Rowing, Cricket, Netball, Golf and Hockey all sports we as a nation are traditionally ‘good’ at. Funding in large is being cut due to a decrease in participation at grassroots level. in a country steeped in sporting history how can participation in sports be decreasing? Continue reading

Referee? You must be mad!

marriner(Photo Credit: BBC.com/sport, 2014)

In the wake of the biggest win of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea career and Arsene Wenger’s 1,000 game as manager of Arsenal it would be fair to assume that these would be dominating the headlines this weekend but once again a referee is. Granted, it’s one of the most bizarre mistakes in premier league history.

During Chelsea’s demolition of Arsenal Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made a save most keepers would have been pleased with and after some deliberation a penalty was given. The right decision. After this it meant that a red card also, had to be given. Again right decision. But, some how, the official Andre Marriner mistook Chamberlin for another player, Kieron Gibbs, sending him off. What an absolute howler! Everyone makes mistakes right? Not sure the Arsenal faithful will see it that way but it does lead you to question how hard is it really to be a referee? Continue reading

After another record breaking week for Manchester United, their first ever loss in Greece, some are starting to question the clubs capabilities. The premier league champions have been more than disappointing this season currently sitting in 6th 15 points off of the top and 11 points away from a champion’s league qualifying place leading many to question what has gone wrong? Is it the manager? The players?  Or was the Fergie effect just that good? Continue reading

In light of the England cricket team’s dismal showing in Australia last month, on return, one thing has dominated the press – The  premature end to Kevin Pietersen’s international career.

Much has been made of this saga with near enough everyone having their say, even our very own prime minister couldn’t resist voicing his opinion on the matter. Quite frankly it is a ludicrous decision from an fan’s perspective he is a one in a generation talent with the ability to single-handedly turn a game on its head. Why is it that the ECB (English Cricket Board) have done this? Continue reading

LFC Transfer Tribulations

allsportblogger

LIvSiging

January’s transfer window seen overall expenditure reach £127.5 million, with some big names in amongst that figure. Included were the likes of Juan Mata (Chelsea to Manchester United £37.1M), Nemanja Matic (Benfica to Chelsea £22M) and Mohammed Salah (FC Basel to Chelsea £11m).

It was Liverpool though, who were left red-faced after once again failing to capture yet another transfer target. In the past they have been beaten to targets such as Clint Dempsey (Tottenham) and more recently Willian, who favoured a move to Stamford Bridge.

However it is the 2014 transfer window that has probably been the most frustrating for LFC fans. After tracking long-time target Mohammed Salah and with negotiations well under way it was presumed the deal would be tied up and sorted by early January, this was not to be the case. Reports suggested Liverpool were unwilling to meet the price FC Basel sought and were…
